Come back, vinyl

While Single Blog Theory headquarters awaits the arrival of the Pearl Jam Holiday/Annual/Christmas/Xmas/Easter Single (update: vinyl recieved!), let's take a look at how vinyl in general is making a come back of sorts.
According to the British Phonographic Industry, sales of seven inch records have shot up 87.3% compared to the same three-month period last year.
While CD sales still falling and digital downloads are growing exponentially, it seems that vinyl is sneaking back in. Why? Well, it's probably a lot of things, but the coolness factor has got to be up there. Popular bands such as Franz Ferdinand, The White Stripes, Of Montreal, and other are issuing releases on vinyl and even exclusive releases - no CD, tape or anything else. It's fun for the collector and it's fun for the kid that has grown up never seen one being played before.
Of course, PJ has always held a special place in their hearts (and catalog) for vinyl. That appreciation has rubbed of on many of it's fans, for sure, as many of its releases have become instant collectables.

I got my single yesterday. If you don't have it yet you should really soon!
Jeremy - yep, got mine yesterday. I still need to give it a spin. Can't wait.
I've got a FLAC of the radio promo if you want it. Or you could just check my thread at RM :)
Nice, I may track that FLAC version down.
I got my single on Friday - sweet!
On the vinyl tip, I think I am going to start buying a lot more vinyl now... I picked up the new Shins, new Of Montreal and Silversun Pickups - and they all had digital downloads to go along with it. In the case of Silversun, no album downloads, but two bonus songs that were also packaged with the record in the form of a bonus 7". Sweet. Vinyl + digital downloads = no CDs for me!
Where do you get your vinyl at? I go to Everybody's Records and this little shop on Monmouth St. in Newport.
My last big pickup was at Everybody's. I also hit Shake-It in Northside. Of course, the closest one to me is the shop in Newport... but I have never been there. May have to stop in soon.
