The Ames Philly 2 poster (which I really dig) has stirred up a bit of controversy over at gigposters.com. It's been out for a while now that the imagery is a nod to E. McKnight Kauffer, but the debate hinges on what is a nod or homage and what is plagiarism or copyright infringing. Here is an example of McKnight's work for you to see. In the world of rock posters, there has always been borrowed, ripped-off and copied ideas, imagery and style. Sometime it's in homage, sometimes it's flat-out stealing and most of the time, it's somewhere in between. It's actually a part of the scene that makes it what it is. The debate will always rage on.
